The Salvation Army in Southwest Florida needs your help.

It’s short for volunteers for its largest fundraiser, its annual ringing of the kettlebells during the holidays.

It’s the biggest fundraiser, critical to its effort to help people not only at Christmas but all year round.

“I think when we start thinking about other people, we all feel better,” said Vicki Poff, a volunteer with the Salvation Army.

Poff is a bell ringer. She has been since she was 14 years old.

The spare change people drop into her  bucket can change people’s lives.

“It takes care of housing, shelter, food, emergency needs for people all year long,” Poff said.

The Salvation Army also has the Angel Tree Program.

The goal is to help more than 4,000 people open gifts on Christmas morning. That’s 800 more than last year.

“The need is always huge as the poverty level and Lee County is great. But with COVID and high-rising cost of just living with gas prices and everything price of food going up. The need has been greater,” said Charlotte Gargis Major with the Salvation Army.
