Answering your questions about UPC claims

Published: Updated:

Many of you are worried about your United Property and Casualty insurance or UPC claims.

The insurance company went under, which means the state is now taking over those Hurricane Ian claims. WINK News talked to Mark Friedlander with the Insurance Information Institute about what that means for you. You can see his answers in the video above.

If you think your insurer lost your hurricane claim, Friedlander says to file a new one immediately. The new prompt pay laws do not apply to you. You still have about a year and a half left to file.

WINK News also spoke with Florida Senate President Kathleen Passidomo about how lawmakers plan to continue the fight when they start back up in just a few days. You can watch that in the video below.

Passidomo said another bill was filed with the goal of strengthening hurricane policies after a committee spent months looking back on how Ian was handled.
