The Lee County Sheriff’s Office held a memorial service to honor the deputies who had died in the line of duty.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno hosted the memorial service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The memorial service had an honor guard and pipes and drums to play amazing grace and taps to honor the 10 deputies and a K-9 killed during their service.

Red roses were placed in a wreath to symbolize the fallen deputies.

Many deputies came out to show support for one another and the families who lost a loved one.

WINK News reporter Annalise Iraola spoke with Donnie Fewell, who lost his twin brother, Corp. Ronnie Fewell after he was shot and killed in the line of duty.

“As a family member, I looked around at the fellow survivors, and the worst thing could ever happen was that our loved one’s sacrifice will be forgotten,” said Fewell, “so memories like these every year when we come and meet together, it’s a testament to the sacrifices that those officers made.

Marceno said it was an emotional and difficult day to relive these losses, but it’s important to always remember and never forget those who gave everything.
