The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has released a statement on the two airboats that crashed into one another in Ochopee.

Monday, the FWC released a statement that an airboat with one operator and 13 passengers on board collided head-on with another airboat carrying one operator and 20 passengers on board.

FWC officers began an investigation into the boating crash that occurred in Collier County, south of U.S. 41 east, between mile markers 74 and 75.

Several law enforcement and fire rescue departments responded to the scene.

At least 24 passengers were injured. Sixteen of those passengers were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The collision happened Friday at approximately 3:15 p.m.

No further information is available at this time, and FWC says the investigation remains ongoing.

Once complete, the full report will be available upon request.
