ASHLAND, N.H. (AP) – Interstate 93 northbound in New Hampshire has reopened after at least 35 vehicles were involved in two separate pileups during fast-moving snow squalls that caused whiteout conditions.

Lt. Jerry Maslan, a state police spokesman, said there were some injuries, but they weren’t considered to be life-threatening. Calls about the accidents started coming in at about 9:45 a.m. Friday.

The northbound lane between Ashland and Plymouth was closed for more than three hours while fleets of tow trucks hauled away damaged vehicles.

State Department of Transportation spokesman Bill Boynton says that stretch of road went from dry pavement to snow covered in three minutes.

Maslan says earlier in the morning on Interstate 89 in Grantham, multiple cars went off the road or were in fender benders. No injuries were reported there.
