FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – A suspended New York Police Department officer has pleaded guilty to playing a role in a $200,000 South Florida cocaine deal.
Phillip LeRoy could get anywhere from 10 years to life in prison after pleading guilty Friday to a drug-trafficking conspiracy charge. Sentencing for the 28-year-old LeRoy was set for June 5 in Fort Lauderdale federal court. LeRoy is jailed without bail.
LeRoy admitted providing security and carrying his off-duty gun in a drug deal that involved bringing cocaine from Florida to New York. The deal turned out to be a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation.
Two other men have pleaded guilty in the case.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1xFKNZ9) reports that LeRoy was a 10-year NYPD veteran who was once named “Cop of the Year” at his Queens precinct.
