Bodies of two people found in Charlotte County house fire

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – The bodies of a man and woman were found Sunday afternoon after a home caught fire on Knight Island.

A spokesperson with Charlotte County Fire and EMS said crews were called to the 100 block of North Gulf Boulevard around 2:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Due to the size of the fire, crews were unable to enter the home, so they had to attack the flames from the outside.

Neighbors said a a family of four live at home and they believed the mother and son were there at the time. However, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed if the bodies found were the mother and son.

Neighbors also told WINK News they heard what sounded like an explosion in the early morning hours, but the State Fire Marshal and Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the cause.

Charlotte County Fire and EMS were also on scene assisting with the investigation.

Crews said the home was a total loss.
