Body of missing diver found off Captiva coast

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- FWC officials confirm the body of a diver who went missing about 30 miles off the Captiva coast was found.

The 50-year-old man went missing Saturday afternoon. The Coast Guard originally said the man was diving the U.S.S. Mohawk, but FWC now says it appears he was diving the Pegasus nearby.

FWC says the man surfaced behind the boat, called for help, and then went under the water.

A crew member jumped in after him but was unable to help.

The man surfaced again, called for help one more time, and went back under the water and was not seen again.

He was diving from a charter vessel called “Playing Hooky.”
