LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A Lehigh Acres man who authorities say is responsible for shaking an infant and causing the baby serious brain damage is now under arrest.

Louis Murph, 23, was charged with aggravated child abuse for the incident that happened on June 21.

Authorities say Murph heard the infant crying and went into the bedroom and attempted to console her. He held the baby and shook her up and down in a vertical and horizontal motion. She continued to cry and then started seizing. Murph then brought the infant outside to her mother.

The baby was transported by EMS to a local hospital for an inability to breathe normally and having seizures.

Doctors determined the symptoms were consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Medical staff then discovered the child was suffering from bleeding of the brain.

The infant was airlifted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami for care.

Authorities say the infant also suffered hemorrhages behind both eyes and a skull fracture. The baby was released from the hospital Thursday night and is in the care of her grandparents.
