NORTH PORT, Fla. – The North Port Fire Department has announced the passing of a longtime firefighter EMT.

Christina Doyle, a NPFD nine-year veteran, battled leukemia for the past year and a half.

The 36-year-old passed away Monday surrounded by family and her North Port Station 84 crew in Houston, Texas, where she had been undergoing advanced cancer treatment.

Doyle was a founding member of the fire department’s Honor Guard and Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

Officials say she was instrumental in organizing the annual “Remember the Fallen 5k Memorial Run.”

Doyle comes from a long line of those dedicated to the fire service, being a fourth generation firefighter.

Arrangements to honor the firefighter are still being organized. The fire department says there will likely be a service and ceremony with a procession through the City of North Port sometime late next week.
