North Port man accused of raping sleeping teen

NORTH PORT, Fla.- A 41-year-old man is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl while she slept, the North Port Police Department said Wednesday.

For years police say Jeffrey Ryan acted as a caregiver to the victim.

The victim’s friends contacted a school resource officer this week about the possibility of inappropriate touching between Ryan and the victim, police said.

Ryan is facing a felony charge of sexual battery and is being held at the Sarasota County Jail with no bond.
