Duplex destroyed after speeding car creates gaping hole

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A speeding car smashed through the wall of a duplex at the intersection of Cultural Park Boulevard and Second Street around 7 p.m.

An elderly woman who was inside was sent to the hospital, but is expected to be fine, according to authorities. A friend of the driver said she called him to check if he was okay and hear his account of the crash.

“He said he was speeding over the bridge and he had lost control and he just couldn’t control it. He hit the house. He said there was absolutely no way of stopping,” a woman named Cheyenne said.

The duplex was condemned and Red Cross is assisting the families.
