A man has been arrested on burglary and battery charges after breaking into a home and attacking a woman in her sleep.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Gonzales-Galas, 35, broke into a home on Meadow Road in Lehigh Acres around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

The victim said she was awakened by a masked man attacking her. The intruder held a serrated kitchen knife to her throat told her to stay quiet.

While struggling with the intruder, the victim suffered a small laceration to her face but managed to disarm him before he fled from the residence.

The victim called 911 after he left. Detectives found a fresh palm-print on an inside window ledge linked Gonzales-Galas to the incident.

Gonzales-Galas was arrested at his home and taken into custody.

LCSO says Gonzales-Galas is a convicted felon and was also found to be in possession of a 0.22 caliber rifle and ammunition.

Gonzales-Galas faces charges of Burglary with Battery, Armed Occupied Burglary and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon and transported to the Lee County Jail.
