Four people were injured, two seriously, after their vans collided on Alligator Alley Thursday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a van driven by a 55-year-old man with a 59-year old woman as passenger (both from Immokalee) was traveling west in the outside lane of Alligator Alley around 8:29 p.m., below the minimum speed limit with its hazard flashers on. Another van, driven by a 21-year-old man with a 22-year-old woman as passenger (both from Fort Myers), was also traveling west in the outside lane of I-75, behind the first van.

The second van failed to observe the first was traveling at a slow rate of speed, rear-ending it. Both vehicles veered off of the roadway, entered the right shoulder and collided with the guardrail.

The occupants of the first van were left with minor injuries, while those in the second van sustained serious injuries; according to the FHP, the 22-year-old passenger was not wearing her seatbelt.
