Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a man they say was impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Deputies stopped Cesar Chavez, 28, of Hampton, Georgia, just after noon on Monday. They say Chavez was driving a white Dodge Charger with black wheels, a push bar on the front, and blue lights all around the car.

When they spoke to Chavez, the sheriff’s office said he handed them a Butt’s County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Office ID card with his name on it. He told deputies he was working security for a Home Depot in Charlotte County.

Deputies say Chavez wore a Butt’s County Sheriff’s Office T-shirt and had a sheriff’s badge and a gun on his belt.

Charlotte County deputies contacted the Butt’s County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia, which said Chavez had not been employed with them since September 2021 and was not currently employed with them.

Deputies also learned that Chavez was not a licensed security officer in the state of Florida, meaning he was not licensed to open carry a firearm.

Chavez was arrested and is facing charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer, openly carrying a firearm, and prohibited use of flashing blue lights.
