Cows on roadway cause deadly crash in Hendry County

A 27-year-old LaBelle man died after a group of cows got onto State Road 29 early Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. on State Road 29, south of Jackie Drive, and it involved two vehicles and five cows, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A Ford Mustang, driven by the 27-year-old, was traveling south on State Road 29 when five cows wandered onto the roadway. The Ford Mustang and a Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 50-year-old Immokalee man, struck the cows.

The Mustang later collided with the Dodge Ram. The driver of the Mustang was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram suffered minor injuries.

All of the cows died.

The crash remains under investigation.
