All lanes of US 41 westbound at Goodlette-Frank Road to remain closed through Thursday

Published: Updated:

Several commuters reached out to WINK News Tuesday morning after getting delayed and stuck in traffic they had not anticipated.

The problem was the result of a maintenance repair on U.S. 41, from 10th Street North to Ninth Street North in Naples.

The Florida Department of Transportation addressed the issue, later that day.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances with repairs to the stormwater piping, all lanes of U.S. 41 westbound were closed this morning [Tuesday] at Goodlette-Frank Road and will remain closed through Thursday, October 12,” according to a spokesperson.

The road closure caused mayhem for drivers Tuesday morning.

Drivers WINK News talked to said this is one of the busiest intersections in Naples, and they would have liked to have some sort of warning for the road closure.

“I really have no idea what they were doing here, but it was a problem that there were no detours or no direction, really. We just wound up in it,” said Diane Titone, a Naples resident.

FDOT working to alleviate traffic:

  • The westbound two lanes onto Goodlette-Frank Road have been turned into a constant right turn to ease the flow of traffic. The traffic signal at this location has been updated to reflect the change.
  • Engineers may open one lane during peak hours on Wednesday and Thursday to alleviate traffic backup.

Alternate Routes from FDOT:

  • All westbound traffic on U.S. 41 should turn right (northbound) on Airport Road, then turn left (heading west) on Golden Gate Parkway to rejoin U.S. 41.
  • All eastbound traffic will experience left lane closures at Goodlette-Frank Road and should make a left turn (northbound) on SR 84 (Davis Boulevard) or Airport Road then turn left (heading west) on Golden Gate Parkway to rejoin Goodlette-Frank Road.
