Six people are in the hospital, according to Lehigh Fire, after a truck slammed into a Lehigh Acres home before ending up in a canal.

This happened on Sunshine Boulevard and 24th Street Thursday night.

Neighbors said they watched as a pickup truck that had been stopped at this street, suddenly sped up, hit the house, reversed just as fast, and set off down the road.

The truck left a gaping hole in the side of the house and left debris all over where a bedroom once was.

The mattress made it all up to the wall on the other side of the room. A family friend and neighbor who watched it all said that thankfully everyone inside the house is OK.

The four children who live here did not get hurt, but their mother and father each received injuries.
WINK was told the father hurt his leg and the mother her foot.

Another scene happened further up the road, this time near the intersection at 26th Street.
Lehigh Fire said two vehicles got into a crash here and neighbors said they think this one happened after the truck left the home and drove through here recklessly.

It all came to an end at the final scene along Sunshine Blvd, where Lehigh Fire says the pickup truck got into another accident, this time with a van, before driving head-first into a canal.

WINK reached out to Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol for more information as to those injured here and whether the driver of the truck is among those taken to the hospital.
