The Fort Myers Police Department is warning the public of a holiday scam involving a fraudulent text message targeting USPS and FedEx users.

According to FMPD, the message may claim you have a package with an issue, such as damage or a delivery date change, and ask you to click a link for more details or to confirm your information.

Do not click the link.

Once you click it, you’ll be asked to enter personal information, such as name, address, date of birth, and sometimes even Social Security or bank details, to confirm your identity and receive a refund or update.

The scammers then use your stolen information to apply for credit cards and commit identity theft.

How to protect yourself:

  • Don’t click on any suspicious links in texts
  • Verify the sender. Legitimate companies like USPS or FedEx will never send you unsolicited texts asking for personal details
  • Report the scam

If you think you’ve fallen victim, contact the delivery service immediately and consider monitoring your credit.

Remember to always double-check before sharing your personal information.
