The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man accused of driving without a license, causing death on Burnt Store Road.

Deputies arrested Leodanis Pelegrino Ramirez, 39, on Wednesday after a report of a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Burnt Store and Charlee roads.

According to deputies, witness accounts detailed Ramirez, while driving a minivan, was seen swerving on the two-lane road and attempting to cross the center line, striking an SUV head-on.

The SUV driver was transported to Cape Coral Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A passenger of the SUV was also transported to Gulf Coast Hospital, where she had to undergo surgery for her injuries.

The crash caused a multi-hour road closure, where motorists were stranded until law enforcement cleared the scene and airlifted the injured people.

Upon review of the scene, deputies discovered that Ramirez did not have a driver’s license, nor was he ever issued one.

Ramirez spoke with LCSO, who said that while driving his vehicle, it displayed mechanical issues, causing it to swerve to the left and right before causing the head-on collision.

He had also admitted to not having a driver’s license.

Ramirez was arrested and charged with two counts of driving without a license, causing death or serious injury.
