19-year-old paddleboarder missing off Sanibel coast

SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla.- An intense search is underway for a missing paddleboarder.

Officials say the 19-year-old paddleboarder fell into the water around 3:15 p.m.

According to authorities, the paddleboarder’s girlfriend made it back to shore to get help.

There is a big presence of law enforcement combing the area east of Algiers Beach.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has a helicopter in the air and there are multiple boats on the water.

Police tell WINK News the two paddleboarders were not wearing life vests.
