The City of Palms Basketball Tournament tips off Thursday in Fort Myers

Three of the past five No.1 picks in the NBA Draft have played in the City of Palms Tournament.

This week, the next generation of stars will be on display at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers.

“I think the most exciting part is keeping Southwest Florida on the map from a sports standpoint,” said City of Palms Director John Naylor.

The City of Palms tips off Thursday at 2:15. In the second game of the day, the 5th-ranked team in the nation, Sierra Canyon (CA) takes center-court in the first of many premiere matchups.

Montverde High School out of Orlando is No.1 team in the country, and is looking for their third-straight City of Palms title. Montverde is lead by the No.1 Senior in the country, Ben Simmons, a 6’9″ power forward committed to LSU.

“There is no doubt in my mind that this is the number one high school basketball tournament in the country,”
said Naylor. “Fifteen of our teams were ranked in the top 50 in the country.”
