Lee deputy accused of stealing from department

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – An internal investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office found Lt. David Gaillardetz was stealing from the department.

According to documents obtained by the sheriff’s office, Gaillardetz lied on his time cards since at least 2012. The report stated the department was investigating Gaillardetz for neglect of duty, loafing and inattention to procedures.

Saturday a WINK News crew attempted to speak with Gaillardetz at his home; however, no one answered.

Meanwhile, neighbors were shocked.

“The POPO is stealing from themselves,” said neighbor David Herrero. “You trust these people. You think they do their jobs, you know?”

The reported said Gaillardetz falsified his time cards from January 2012 to at least May 2014, when he put in for 60 hours of vacation time, but skirted procedure.

WINK News checked and found Gaillardetz was in trouble in 2009 for making derogatory remarks and abusiveness. He was reprimanded, but allowed to keep his job.
