FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sometimes when our veterans return home from service, they have a little bit of a tough time.

A Southwest Florida organization is working to make that transition easier. Carol Borden of the Guardians Angels Medical Service Dogs joined WINK News in the studio.

ALTAIR Training Solutions will be hosting the 2015 Annual Bark-A-Que benefiting Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc. on March 21 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.

The venue address has changed, the fun-filled will now be held at ALTAIR’s Regional Training Facility located at 12551 Wainwright Drive near Immokalee, Florida.

The fundraiser will feature live music by country music rising star Joe Bachman, shooting demonstrations, amazing silent auction items, plenty of barbeque, kids play area and various vendor booths.

Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc. (GAMSD) is non-profit public charity that rescues, raises, trains and then donates highly skilled, federally protected service dogs that mitigate the challenges of a disability. Pairing a service dog with a veteran costs thousands of dollars and can take up to 1,500 hours of training.

GAMSD is currently training and pairing 100 service dogs for our veterans suffering from the challenges of PTSD.

With over 400,000 PTSD veterans currently in treatment, there are 39 of these veterans attempting suicide on a daily basis and 22 of them succeeding because the drugs and therapy aren’t working.

GAMSD has a 100% success rate with our dogs assisting disabled individuals to overcome the challenges of their disabilities and restore their independence, dignity and self-worth.

Event attendees are encouraged to RSVP by March 13. Tickets are $35 per person prior to March 12, and $50 per person after March 12, or at the gate. Kids under 12 are free. Pets are not permitted. Click on Hotlinks to RSVP.
