BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- There are snowbirds and springs breakers galore but one guest showed up close to the shoreline along Bonita Beach that wasn’t welcome.
A family tells WINK News they were in the water on Sunday when they spotted something lurking nearby. They say it looked like a dolphin but they jumped out of the water just in case. They were glad they did because it turned out what they saw was a big shark. The family shot video and sent it in to WINK News.
On the beach, visitors were shocked to see the video.
“I think it is scary,” said Michelle Dwyer. “I think it’s really scary.”
Other swimmers didn’t like the thought of a shark that close to the shore.
“I am uncomfortable with that because that shark is close,” said Hannah Corbin who is visiting Bonita Springs with family.
Boat captains say they are seeing a lot of sharks this time of year. In the past two weeks, a boat captain with Bonita Springs Fishing says he has seen dozens. He caught and released around 10 that were 5 to 7 feet long.
Boating captains believe the sharks are coming in to eat in the warmer waters and possibly mate.
“That is a big shark,” said Kristy Storm who is visiting Bonita Beach with family. “I would not want to be out there and that is why I don’t go out there; I visit from the chair.”
