FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Lee County Port Authority approved changes to the incentive program in an effort to attract more international flights to Southwest Florida International Airport.
RSW currently offers non-stop service to Dusseldorf, Germany, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Canada and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Non-stop service to Cancun, Mexico begins next month.
The Port Authority approved more money in the incentive program to strengthen marketing efforts, offering up to $500,000 to market and promote international flights. That’s an increase from the current $125,000.
County leaders say international travelers have a great impact on the local economy, and are trying to stay competitive and attract more flights to the area.
The current flight to Germany alone brings in more than $100 million.
