DELTONA, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say an off-duty police officer killed his uncle during a family fight at a Deltona home.
Volusia County Sheriff’s officials say DeLand Police Officer Bobby Harrelson, 51, said he was trying to protect his 76-year-old mother when he opened fire on Friday night. The Orlando Sentinel reports Harrelson said he tried unsuccessfully to break up the fight after his uncle, Raymond Davis, 68, started choking his mother.
No other details were released.
