OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (AP) – Detectives are investigating the apparent strangling death of a 2-year-old Florida girl whose neck became entangled in the cords of a vertical blind in her parents’ bedroom.

Broward County sheriff’s spokeswoman Gina Carter said Thursday that Mary Molina’s mother, Jenna Holland, had put the girl down for a nap on the parents’ bed Wednesday. When Holland returned, she found her daughter entangled in the cords and unconscious.

The mother and deputies attempted CPR but were unable to revive the child. The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital an hour later.

No charges have been filed.
