Florida woman, mother share history at Hooters restaurants

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) – A southwest Florida woman and her mother share a notable job history: both worked at Hooters restaurants to pay their college tuitions.

Jill Shapiro worked for the restaurant chain in Orlando nearly 25 years ago. Her daughter Amanda now works at a franchise in Cape Coral while pursuing a nursing degree at Florida Gulf Coast University.

The pair is quoted in the News-Press as lauding the company for supporting its employees and building their confidence.

Amanda Shapiro will represent her restaurant at the Miss Hooters International pageant later this month in Las Vegas. She’s also featured in the company’s 2016 calendar.

She says she’s met other women who also are second-generation employees. Hooters Inc. of Clearwater incorporated in 1983. The parent company is now based in Georgia.
