PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) – A Pensacola man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a convenience store owner during a robbery.

The Pensacola News Journal reports that 21-year-old Dontonio Diaz Thornton was sentenced Friday after being convicted of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Thornton and his mother, Willie Mae Thornton, robbed Phuong Truong’s store in 2014. Investigators say the son shot Truong, but the mother planned the robbery.

Willie Mae Thornton was convicted last year for her role in the slaying and sentenced to life in prison.
