PALO CEDRO, Calif. (CNN) — Football players at a California high school found a touching and unusual way to show their support for a cheerleader who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Players from Foothill High School laid orange roses at the feet of Ashley Adamietz as they made their traditional walk onto the field Friday. Orange represents leukemia awareness.

Adamietz, who didn’t know about the gesture beforehand, said she was shocked, overwhelmed and speechless.
