Lawmakers to hear ‘Camo Alert’ proposal from veterans group

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla. The creation of an alert system for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder will be the subject of discussion among community leaders Wednesday.

“Camo Alerts” would be similar to AMBER and Silver Alerts and would inform the public about a missing person with post-traumatic stress disorder. U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney, state Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto and members of the Lee County Commission are among those expected to hear an American Military Veterans Foundation proposal on the idea.

The summit is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the foundation’s headquarters on 1490 NE Pine Island Road.

The foundation is also proposing the establishment of “veteran safe zones” designed to help depressed and suicidal victims of PTSD.
