NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of two women who died Sunday after an incident in the Royal Coach neighborhood near Hart Road.

The bodies of Rebecca Lynn Duffey, 60, and Rita Lorraine Duffey, 68, were found inside a home at 15636 Royal Coach Circle. They were sisters, nearby residents said.

One was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies were called to the residence at about 4 p.m. The other was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly thereafter.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate but says no threat to the public exists.

Diana Hammond, who said she sold the place to the sisters a few years ago, detected some tension between the siblings within the past week.

Still, she never expected what she saw Sunday.

“I looked down and I saw the crime scene tape was up already, and there was police cars all down there, and I was like, whoa, what’s going on,” Hammond said. “Then when I realized where they were, my heart just broke.”

The sights and sounds of police cruisers, detectives and an ambulance with its siren and lights on shook the normally serene 55-plus age group neighborhood.

“It’s just such a sociable neighborhood that it’s pretty much a shock,” Hammond said.

No further information was immediately available.
