Cape Coral, Sanibel to suspend liquor sales during Irma

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla. Liquor sales will be suspended on Sanibel and within Cape Coral city limits as Hurricane Irma passes.

Sales of all alcoholic beverages except for beer will be stopped at 2 a.m. Saturday om Cape Coral, city spokeswoman Andrea Schuch said in a press release. Offering to sell liquor will also be banned.

Beer is included in Sanibel’s moratorium, which begins at 9 a.m. Friday. Alcohol sales will be allowed again once Sanibel’s mandatory evacuation is lifted.

It’s unclear when Cape Coral’s restriction will end.

Stopping liquor sales is “necessary to protect and safeguard the safety, health and welfare of the people of Sanibel,” according to a resolution passed by Sanibel City Council.

Cape Coral didn’t offer a specific reason for implementing its ban.
