FORT MYERS, Fla. A Lee County commissioner accused of driving under the influence has entered a not guilty plea, according to the Lee County Clerk of Court.

John Manning, of District 1, pleaded not guilty on Friday after his Wednesday morning arrest stemming from a crash. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.105, which was above the legal limit of 0.08, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

The collision left Cape Coral resident Justine Maher with minor injuries, and she intends to press charges to cover her medical expenses and the cost of her car.

Manning was released on a $5,000 bond, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. His next court date is Oct. 9.

His future as a commissioner is unclear. Neither Manning, his attorney nor county officials have offered comment since the crash.
