Video shows Cape PD towing truck believed to be involved in fatal hit-and-run

Surveillance footage from ABC Supply, off of Country Club Boulevard, shows Cape Coral Police Department towing a red truck, believed to be the truck involved in the hit-and-run that killed 8-year-old Layla Aiken Monday morning.

From the surveillance footage, it shows the red truck driving and then parking in the lot attached to ABC Supply. The business confirmed the driver of the vehicle is an employee, but would not provide information on the driver.

Timeline of events, according to CCPD and surveillance footage:

  • 6:18 a.m.: Layla Aiken was hit while waiting at her bus stop.
  • 6:33 a.m.: Surveillance video shows the red truck arriving. In the video, the driver is seen getting out of the truck, and then walk around checking the sides of the vehicle before walking into the building.
  • 9:30 a.m.: CCPD arrive at the business parking lot. According to witnesses, 18 CCPD units were on scene within the hour.
  • 11:16 a.m.: Surveillance shows the red truck get towed away.

ABC Supply said police did not take the driver away.

CCPD said they have a person of interest, but no arrest.
