Lieutenant says hit-and-run investigations ‘take time’

You may escape justice for a while but not forever. That’s the warning from law enforcement when it comes to leaving the scene of a crash.

Perhaps the most prominent local case right now is that of 8-year-old Layla Aiken. Someone hit and killed her at a Cape Coral school bus stop three weeks ago.

“There’s many elements we have to prove,” said Lieutenant Greg Bueno with Florida Highway Patrol. “And these elements take time to investigate from witnesses statements to gathering evidence from processing the scene, gathering security video, tracking down a suspect, seeing if the suspect will cooperate.”
