Someone left a dog all alone, locked in a crate and without food or water in the middle of a Cape Coral field.

The dog, around a year old, is expected to be OK, but police are looking for his owner and say they’ll pursue charges.

The dog was found Tuesday morning in the 1800 block of Everest Parkway, just east of Del Prado Boulevard and south of Veterans Parkway.

Police believe the dog was left overnight because there was condensation on the crate.

“The dog was scared and barking at them [police] when they first arrived, but the dog calmed down. They tried to put the dog on a leash, but he didn’t like it and doesn’t seem to have been on a leash before,” states the Lee County Domestic Animal Services report, which also said the dog isn’t microchipped and appeared to be in good health.

The officer who responded to the initial call about the dog has expressed interest in adopting him should he become available for adoption.
