William Robert Burkey (LCSO) William Robert Burkey, 69, of Cape Coral, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced today to 231 months in prison, or just over 19 years, for 58 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He was also designated a Sexual Offender for life. Burkey was found guilty following a three-day trial in Lee County in March. In January 2019, the former family care physician was printing photos at a drug store in Fort Myers that contained images of young girls. An employee at the store thought he was acting odd and alerted law enforcement. The defendant returned to the same store and printed more photos a few days later. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated and identified Burkey through the use of his store discount card. A search warrant was executed at his home and the illegal material involving children was found. As part of today’s sentencing, Burkey was also ordered to stay away from children. He must also pay fines and court costs.
