Sunday’s Coronavirus Updates: 4,098 new cases and 63 new deaths

As of 2 p.m. Sunday, there have been 1,944,995 positive cases of the coronavirus recorded in the state. The case count includes 1,909,209 Florida residents and 35,786 non-Florida residents. There are 31,683 Florida resident deaths reported, 583 non-resident deaths, and 80,954 hospitalizations at some point during illness, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Total number of recorded cases: 1,944,995 (up from 1,940,897)
Florida resident deaths: 31,683 (up from 31,620)
Non-resident deaths: 583 (up from 580)
Total deaths in state (Fla./non-Fla. residents combined): 32,266 (up from 32,200)

• 4,098 new total new cases reported Sunday

• Percent positive for new cases in Fla. residents: 5.84%
  • This percent is the number of people who test PCR- or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

Total recorded cases in SWFL: 109,506 (up from 109,310)
Deaths: 1,894 (up from 1,892)

• 196 total new cases reported Sunday
• 2 new deaths reported Sunday

Lee County: 58,768 cases (up from 58,653) – 889 deaths
Collier County: 30,777 (up from 30,725) – 465 deaths
Charlotte County: 10,836 (up from 10,823) – 373 deaths
DeSoto County: 3,872 (up from 3,858) – 76 deaths (1 new)
Glades County: 907 (no change) – 16 deaths
Hendry County: 4,346 (up from 4,344) – 75 deaths (1 new)

TESTING DATA

Effective Oct. 27, the Florida Department of Health ceased releasing data showing overall testing numbers. Their statement: “The Florida Department of Health is making adjustments to the COVID-19 dashboard and daily report to provide clear, accurate information for Florida families. Moving forward, the daily report will focus on the number of tests reported to the state by day and the corresponding positivity rate by day. The previously reported cumulative number did not reflect the current status of the pandemic in Florida. This change is in line with the CDC recommendation that calculation of percent positivity [is] applied consistently and with clear communication, will allow public health officials to follow magnitude and trends effectively, and the trends will be useful for local public health decision making.”
