The clock is running out to ship gifts or cards for the holidays—the cutoff date for retail ground service packages is Dec. 15.

For first-class mail, including cards, you have until Dec. 17. Priority mail needs to be sent by December 18. If you’re sending gifts overseas, the international deadline is Thursday.

Robert Rhoad, with the USPS customer relations, says if you can get your packages out this week, you’ll avoid a huge rush.

“This would be a great week to get out and do it,” Rhoad said. “Again, next week… that is categorically always our busiest week, so if you want to avoid the lines, you can come into our lobbies this week and avoid that busiest mailing week next week.”

USPS is projected to ship 2.3 billion pieces of mail next week.
