Pedestrian killed in crash on Del Prado Blvd. S. in Cape Coral

A man was killed after being struck by an SUV on Del Prado Boulevard South in Cape Coral Saturday night.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, a 2001 Toyota Highlander driven by Qilei Zhang, W/M, 43, of Cape Coral, with two passengers, was going south in the 200 block of Del Prado Boulevard South in the inside lane around 10:30 p.m. Corey Bourgard, 34, of Cape Coral, was walking from west to east across the southbound lanes of Del Prado Boulevard in an area that does not have overhead lighting while wearing dark clothing.

Bourgard walked into the path of the Highlander in the inside lane. The front of the SUV struck him on his left side, forcing him onto the hood, then the windshield, then rolling him over the roof. Bourgard landed face-down on then the grassy median.

The Cape Coral Fire Department and Lee County Emergency Medical Services responded and Bourgard was trauma alerted due to suffering life-threatening injuries. At 1:14 a.m., he was declared dead at Gulf Coast Hospital from his injuries suffered in the traffic crash.
