The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a post that a man was sentenced to 36 months in prison for making counterfeit money.

In May of 2021, Dennis Michael Aigiotti, 54, attempted to use a counterfeit $10 bill at a grocery store on Boca Grande.

LCSO deputies, along with the U.S. Secret Service, began investigating. While executing a search warrant for Aigiotti’s car, investigators found $410-worth of counterfeit money and the devices he was using to make the bills.

When he was caught at the grocery store, Aigiotti was already on federal supervised relief for a previous passing and counterfeiting Federal Reserve notes charge.

A U.S. District judge sentenced Aigiotti to three years in federal prison for possessing and passing counterfeit money.
