The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man they say started a fire on a bench and inside several cars.

Deputies arrested 54-year-old Craig Lumb on Sunday for setting the fires.

According to deputies, they responded to a report of someone lighting cars on fire along Long Shore Way East. Deputies say when they arrived, they found a bench on fire with Lumb and another man standing nearby.

Deputies suspected Lumb was responsible and detained him while they put out the fire on the bench. While extinguishing that fire, deputies say they noticed smoke inside a nearby car. The fire department opened the car’s door, put out the fire, and saw burn marks on the passenger seat.

Nearby, firefighters saw another car that had smoke coming from the trunk area. They put out the fire in that car and found the rear seats melted.

Collier County Sheriff’s deputies spoke to the cars’ owner, who told them he woke up to the smell of smoke and found his cars on fire with Lumb standing nearby. The victim told deputies that Lumb said he had to light the fires to get the devil.

Deputies say the top of Lumb’s hand had singed hair and that his left foot was bleeding. Deputies say Lumb also spoke about seeing dead people while he was detained in the back of a patrol car.

Deputies Baker Acted Lumb and took him to the Naples Jail Center. He is facing an arson charge.
