Update: On Tuesday, the Leee County Sheriff’s Office deemed the death not to be suspicious and no suspects are sought.

Lee County deputies are conducting an investigation on New Post Road in North Fort Myers Monday morning after a man said he found a body.

Bruce Myers said he goes to a nearby 7-Eleven to get his coffee every day.

But on Monday he said, on his way home, “I saw this gentleman leaning against the fence, and his head was kind of to one side. And he was just laying there with his arms down and I pulled up and looked at him and I said, ‘Are you okay?’ No response. And I said, ‘Are you okay? No response.”

Then, he saw blood.

“The more I looked at him, I could see blood on his arms, his left arm, I could see his shirt was soaked in blood. I could see a blood trail down the gutter, along the street. I could see a knife sheath in the grass. And I thought I better call 911.”

He said he told deputies everything he saw, even the gruesome parts. “I said he’s dead. There’s flies all over him. He’s probably been there a while,” Myers recalled.

Multiple LCSO vehicles were at the scene along with a barricade to block the scene, however, the sheriff’s office has not officially confirmed if this is a suspicious death, whether the person was murdered, or if a killer is on the loose.

The medical examiner has since transported the body.

If you have any information on this death, you’re encouraged to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239)477-1000.
