The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Immokalee man who they say broke into a home on Monday.

According to deputies, a woman called and said that a man, later identified as 19-year-old Miguel Martinez, had broken into her home on Banana Lane while she was inside.

The woman told deputies that she heard Martinez banging on the front door, yelling to let him in. She said that she went to her kitchen and grabbed a knife to defend herself before looking for pepper spray in her bedroom.

Deputies said the woman heard a window break in her kitchen and heard Martinez making his way into her home, so she ran to a friend’s house and called 911.

When deputies arrived, they said they found the broken window and droplets of blood on a cooler under the window. Deputies say things had been moved around as though Martinez was looking for something or someone inside the home but said he was no longer there when they arrived.

Down the street from the victim’s home, deputies found a car registered to Martinez that the victim had not seen before and believed may belong to the suspect.

Deputies said they were familiar with Martinez and said the victim’s description matched that of Martinez. She said also was able to pick him out of a photo lineup after the incident.

Inside Martinez’s abandoned car, deputies found A medical marijuana card and debit cards that belonged to him.

Deputies arrested Martinez a the Naples Jail Center on Tuesday for burglary, petit theft, and criminal mischief. He was also charged with violating his probation.
