Some may not want to see them go up but, Verizon plans on putting five new towers in Naples and the city’s hands are tied.

Naples can’t deny it and that’s because of the state laws in place.

If you’re a Verizon customer this may be the message you’ve been waiting for.

Andrew Testa is a Verizon Communications Manager and explained what the company is doing with its coverage in Naples.

“It’s what we call sort of densifying so that the more people that try to use their phone in that area they’ll be able to do so with downloads in a snap or being able to make that phone call,” Testa said.

The five towers will be installed and the locations will be scattered throughout Naples where you may notice a low signal.

“This will allow for customers to make phone calls to be able to have speedier downloads and what and I mentioned this will also include 5G down the line,” Testa said.

City leaders don’t want to see eyesores and the hope is to downsize the towers from what is seen at the Naples pier tower.

Alison Bickett is a Naples traffic engineer and she shared some thoughts with WINK News.

“Once that we explain this is these are the regulations, they tend to kind of understand,” Bickett said. “I still expect that not everyone is going to be completely satisfied.”

Some towers will be in residential areas and it’s unavoidable.

“We’ve had to just try to look to see what we can try to control,” Brickett said.

Verizon calls its small cell towers “solutions” but some might see them as a big problem.

Verizon said it is committed to trying to make the towers as pleasing to the eye as possible.

The city does have control over aesthetics and residents can expect to see the towers up early next year.
