A suspect is on the loose after an early morning shooting in North Fort Myers on Thursday.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a report of a shooting just before 2:00 a.m. The sheriff’s office did not say where in North Fort Myers the shooting took place.

Deputies say they heard could hear screaming coming from the front porch area of a home, and when they entered the front lawn area, they found a man lying on the ground, screaming that he had been shot. The Sheriff’s Office says deputies tied a tourniquet to the man’s leg to stop the bleeding. The current condition of the man was not shared.

Deputies say the man told them that two black men wearing all black had hit and tried to rob him before shooting him, though deputies say he was unsure of the exact sequence of events.

A perimeter was set up around the area by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office with K-9 and air units to search for the suspect. Deputies say they were unable to locate a suspect for the shooting during that search.

WINK News knocked on nearly every door near the park asking if they heard or saw anything. And, while some say they saw it on the news this morning others were unaware anything happened in the area.

Marcia Bramhall lives near the area and shared how she was feeling about and since the shooting.

“I’m shocked a little bit. I didn’t know that there. We haven’t really had any problems around here to speak,” Bramhall said. “And normally, you know, normally it feels like it’s a safe Park and there’s no problems. I suppose anything can happen after midnight. You know, it’s kind of a good time to be home in bed.”

“There’s a lot of people that come here every day they know each other. It’s an extended family and there’s never really been any problems here,” Bramhall said.

The victim was taken to the hospital and we are unsure about his condition as of 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.
