A Cape Coral man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after police say he admitted he tried to lure a child into sex.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Regan Beresford, 51, was arrested at around 4:45 p.m. at the 7-Eleven located at 714 Burnt Store Road N. CCPD was informed on July 29 that Beresford was messaging a minor and making the minor feel uncomfortable with what he was saying. A detective assumed the online identity of the minor and renewed contact with Beresford.

The conversation quickly became sexual in nature and extended for several weeks. The context of the messages also included Beresford sending graphic photos of his genitals to the detective he believed to be the minor. Beresford then traveled to 7-Eleven to meet with the presumed minor for sex. He also stopped at a local Walgreens, before he arrived at 7-Eleven, to purchase condoms.

Once at the scene, Beresford was detained and later admitted to sending the messages and photos. He was transported to Lee County Jail. Beresford faces charges of traveling to meet after using a computer to lure a child, using a computer to seduce/solicit/lure a child and transmitting information harmful to minors.
