The Rockin’ on the River concert at the new amphitheater in downtown Fort Myers had a great turnout, representing the city’s growth and progress.

A spokeswoman for the city told WINK News, that events like Rockin’ on the River, exemplify the music, culture, and personality of Fort Myers.

A night of relaxation with a lot going on, but was free from problems or issues. And for Fort Myers city leaders and police, that’s a successful eventful evening.

The 80s alternative rock and roll band, The Fixx, headlined the event, giving downtown Fort Myers a great performance.

“We grew up with the 80s music and we love it. so, we’re really excited about it,” concertgoer Sharon Cooney said.

The Luminary Hotel assisted in organizing the concert series at the amphitheater. Ashley Loubier, the marketing manager for the Luminary Hotel shared some thoughts about the event with WINK News.

“We had never done anything like this before. This was the first really big event at the amphitheater,” Loubier said. “And so, I was calling it an experiment to see how our staff would do and how the public would respond to it last night.”

The question that was on the organizers’ minds was, would people come to a concert on a Tuesday night? Liz Bello-Matthews, the Fort Myers public information officer, shed some light on that very question.

“We were thinking that you know, perhaps a lot of people couldn’t make it, you know, in the middle of the week. But you know, they absolutely proved us wrong,” Bello-Matthews said.

Bello-Matthews said the energy of the people was contagious on Tuesday, and they want to keep it going.

“It’s actually highlighting the music and the culture and the flavor and the personality that our city has. So, we’re hoping to do a lot more of that,” Bello-Matthews said.

Pablo Cruise will headline the next free concert scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 30.
